A practical toolkit detailing the why and how of inclusive recruitment of candidates with a criminal history

Employment has been identified as one of the key tools in reducing recidivism rates, improving the lives of those with a criminal history and as a result creating safer communities. However, we know from our own work and research carried out by others that people with convictions face multiple barriers to employment.

In 2019, 60% of employers, who answered a Solas poll, said they were willing to hire a candidate with a criminal history if supported to do so.

This comprehensive toolkit guides the reader through a number of inclusive processes and provides practical resources and guidance to facilitate the recruitment and retention of individuals with convictions. Some of the topics covered include:

  • Disclosure
  • GDPR & Garda Vetting
  • Criminal Record Assessment Tool
  • Inclusive Policies

If you are interested in An Employer’s Toolkit for Inclusive Hiring of People with Convictions, you might also find scoping report commissioned by IPRT, and partially funded by ODI, The Secondary Punishment: A Scoping Study on Employer Attitudes to Hiring People with Criminal Convictions which will be available soon.
